Bluegrass Festival

Pickin’ and Pluckin’ at Coyote Moon Vineyards’ Bluegrass in the Vineyards

By Valerie Hickman

Coyote Moon Vineyards located on East Line Road in Clayton, New York picked and plucked the weekend away during its annual Bluegrass in the Vineyards on August 24th, 25th, and 26th. The vineyards were lined with tents and rvs as band members, guests, and vendors began arriving early Friday morning in eagerness for the festival to begin.  Much to everyone’s delight, the festivities commenced Friday night with an open jam session under Coyote Moon’s large white tent.  Campers, musicians, family, and friends dined on Pickle Barrel Café’s delicious barbeque fare while kicking off the jubilations.  Musicians played into the late hours of the night creating a howlin’ good time for all and getting everyone excited for the weekend!

The celebration resumed Saturday morning and continued into Sunday evening as bluegrass artists from near and far gathered to entertain the guests.  Coyote Moon’s bandstand was decorated with rocking chairs, flowers, and foliage reminding guests of a Southern-style front porch.  The Foggy River Band, Trey Hensley and Driving Miss Crazy from Tennessee, The Atkinson Family Band, Pete Deachman, Dave Nichols and Spare Change, and Amy Gallatin and Still Water from New England each took the stage keeping the music flowing and spirits high.  A hospitality tent was set up next to the bandstand for guests to meet the band members.  The bands were more than gracious and spent the afternoons meeting guests, signing autographs, socializing, and enjoying the festivities.

While guests’ feet were tapping to the music they shopped, dined, enjoyed hayrides, and sampled Coyote Moon’s delectable award-winning wine and wine slushies.  There was even a Coyote Moon coloring contest for those feeling inspired and artistic!  Farmers’ market vendors showcased treats and handmade wares for guests of all ages.  Pickle Barrel Café, LaMont’s Food Fare, and Johnny D’s offered breakfast and lunch to satisfy empty bellies with everything from barbeque to burgers to breakfast burritos; there was something for everyone.
