Ah, summer. Ready to pack up all the picnic or cookout goodies? Let’s check:

√ hamburgers

√ hot dogs

√ potato salad

√ tossed salad

√ potato chips

√ cooling dessert

√ condiments

√ cans of wine

Surprised by that last item on the checklist? It’s true. The Thousand Island winery called Coyote Moon Vineyards has begun offering two of its wines in cans — Fire Boat Red and Fire Boat White, making it the first winery in New York State to can its wines.

The cans are small, light, and easily transportable. No corkscrew is needed. The aluminum protects the quality of the wine, and is easily recycled. The wines are offered in four-packs of 250ml cans, which means each can is equal to one-third of a normal bottle of wine, which is 750ml.

Coyote Moon, located in Clayton near the St. Lawrence Seaway, is owned and operated by Phil Randazzo and his family. They specialize in growing cold-hardy northern climate “Minnesota” grapes, and have won numerous awards in major competitions in the few years they have been open.
